Dr. Joshua Alexander Polk Ph.D. (94028740) is a Psychological Associate practicing under the direct supervision of Dr. Josetta Kovitch, Psy.D. (PSY34501). Dr. Polk works with individuals, couples, and relational systems navigating trauma, identity, intimacy, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. His therapeutic style is warm, honest, culturally responsive, and deeply relational. He believes therapy should be a space where people feel both emotionally held and respectfully challenged as they work toward greater self-understanding, healing, and connection.
Dr. Polk’s work is grounded in psychodynamic, emotionally focused, attachment-based, and systemic approaches. He often explores how early relationships, family patterns, cultural messages, and lived experiences shape the way people relate to themselves and others. As an LGBTQ+ affirming and social justice-oriented clinician, Dr. Polk is especially passionate about supporting clients from marginalized communities, including queer and trans clients, people of color, and those navigating the intersections of identity, relationships, sexuality, and belonging.
Dr. Polk has experience working in community mental health, private practice, and group settings with diverse populations and clinical concerns. He has facilitated men’s groups and queer identity-based groups and has worked with clients experiencing relational trauma, depression, anxiety, identity concerns, sexual and intimacy challenges, and behavioral patterns that interfere with connection and self-worth.
Dr. Polk earned his PhD in Marital and Family Therapy from Alliant International University, his Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in LGBT-Affirmative Psychotherapy from Antioch University Los Angeles, and his Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Howard University. His approach is collaborative, human, and direct, helping clients make meaning of their experiences while building more authentic, fulfilling lives and relationships.
